This tiny state has probably the best range of places to stay in India.
You can rent a room in a village home, or stay on the beach surrounded by bamboo and palm-thatch, or go for the comfort of a clean, mid-range goa hotel with air-con and TV, or enjoy a luxurious hotel.
If you arrive early in the season you'll find plenty of rooms available in all budgets, giving you room to bargain or shop around if the price isn't right.
On the other hand, if you turn up at one of the more popular beaches in the high season you will come across some very average places that are vastly overpriced.
Christmas Period
Accommodation is all about supply and demand in Goa and the hottest demand is over the Christmas period. At this time many goa hotels in goa - particularly mid-range and top-end places at the popular beach resorts like Calangute and Colva - will jack their walkin rates up by two or three times. Many goa hotels are booked out with charter groups anyway.
You may even find that if you book into a place before this peak season, but stay through the Christmas period, the price will suddenly shoot up during your stay as hoteliers try to capitalise on this busy period.

Generally the prices in Goa india hotels are based on high, middle and low seasons. The high season covers the period from mid-December to late January (with the exception of the peak Christmas period), the middle (shoulder) seasons are from October to mid-December and February to June, and the low season runs from July to September.
Discounts
If you're in Goa during the rest of the year, count on discounts of about 25% in the middle season and upto 60% in the low season.
Checkout Times
Checkout times vary considerably in Goa. They can be as early as 8am - especially in Panaji where hotels want rooms vacated for early bus and train arrivals - or as late as noon.
Make sure you know the checkout time and try not to sleep in on the day you're due to leave - some goa hotels demand an extra 50% of the daily rate for over-sleeping, which is easy to do if you've just rolled in at 5am from a rave party!
Most places will store your luggages and some may give you more checkout grace time if you let them know in advance.Touts
Throughout India, including Goa, visitors arriving by bus or train are likely to be met by taxi drivers and autorickshaw-wallas (autorickshaw drivers) offering to take them to a nice hotel. The technique is simple - they take you not to the place you want to go to but to the place that pays the best commission. Some very good cheap hotels in goa simply refuse to pay the touts and you'll then hear lots of stories about the hotel you want being 'full', closed for repairs', 'no good any more' or even 'flooded', It's almost always a lie.
Touts do have a use, though - if you arrive during the high season, finding a place to stay can be difficult. Hop in a rickshaw tell the driver what price you will pay for a goa hotel, and off you go.
