Hiking and trekking involves a wide range of skillful and physically demanding activities such as rock-climbing, rappelling, river-crossing and jummaring. Rock-climbing in GoaRock-climbing is the art and technique of climbing rock or cliff faces. It isn't the easiest adventure sport and can be quite an extreme sport, although with modern techniques and equipment, safety levels have been greatly enhanced.Rappelling in GoaRappelling involves descending rock faces with the help of a descender, rope harness and mittens.Jummaring in GoaJummaring is the art of ascending a slope by rope, using a toothed, metal clamp. It deals more with the techniques of going up a fixed rope on rock, a steep cliff, an overhang or inside cascading waterfalls. Jummaring is generally used to aid a climber attempting a difficult pitch.River-crossing in GoaTyrolean traverse is a type of river-crossing technique. It is often referred to as under belly crawling and can be quite exhilarating. It involves crossing a river, ravine or even a deep mountain gorge with ropes and equipment.Adventure activitiesAdventure activities include overcoming obstacles, river-crossing using a monkey bridge, commando bridge and rope pulley, climbing using rope pulley, climbing using rope ladders and Tarzan Swing, Jummaring, map-reading, route finding and much more. All this is under the supervised guidance of trained and qualified instructors.Day Long HikesDay-long hikes with a minimum group of 7-8 people are also organised mostly on Sundays. They take place in the hills of Valpoi, Mollem and Sanguem. Some of the more famous points are Devil's Canyon, Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and Tambdi Surla Temple in Mollem, Sonar, Krishnapur Canyon and Vageri Hill in Valpoi and Chandrasurya Temple in Netravali, Sanguem. The Goa Hiking Association is credited with the discovery of a beautiful waterfall claimed to be bigger than even the Dudhsagar Waterfall, now named the Tudov Waterfall. Another spectacular trek is the Collem-Castle Rock-Kuveshi trek, which begins at the base of the Dudhsagar Falls, then moves up to its mid point at Castle Rock and then onto the pinnacle of the falls at Kuveshi. The view of the waterfall from the top, and of Goa too, is simply stunning.Places to Go for above SportsThe lush Sahyadri Hills (Western Ghats) running through Goa make for a very pleasant trekking experience.
