About Baga Beach

Baga beach is an option for those who want to be away from the hustle-bustle found on the other beaches. Baga beach looks as if it has come alive out of a painting...majestic white waves rushing to wipe out the feet imprints left by you on the brown sand while the wind continues to flirt with the palm trees. This beach is a small but perfect beach located between its two more famous cousins, Colva on one side and Calangute on the other. It is a good place to enjoy some quiet moments and dwell in peaceful contemplation with oneself.

The beach is more of a fishing beach with the tourists from across the world trying to get that big catch.

The Baga River flows down from one side offering a pleasant diversion for children and those who love the water but can't risk the rip currents that swirl round the mouth. Where the river and the sea meet, and on the far right bank, tourists at Baga beach will see a group of black rocks against which the sea crashes.

How to enjoy here ...

One can do nothing but just drown in the peaceful solitude offered by this beach. But if you care for some other trip, then you can visit the medicinal springs. To reach this place, you have to tread through the narrow road leading past the Bom Viagem Convent along the cashew-covered foothills, which leads to the springs at Mottant. This is an ideal spot for picnics and bathing, as the water is believed to be medicinal. Overlooking the village and the Arabian Sea, at the Baga hilltop is the Baga Retreat House dedicated to St Francis Xavier. It is also known as the Casa de Retiros.

Where to stay?

Tourists planning their vacation in Goa have plenty of accommodation options in Baga beach. There are many guesthouses and hotels in Baga and nearby Calangute. Those planning a longer vacation in Goa should look out for houses that are to be let out.

St Anthony’s This simple restaurant – cum – beach shack serves an astonishing variety of fish dishes, and possibly the best sweet lassi (yogurt-and-milk drink) in India. The tuna steaks and pomfret dishes are particularly good.

Hotel Baia Do Sol This is the most reliable accommodation here – versus the shack-type lodgings prevalent in Baga – because of its great location by the Baga river and it is across the road from the beach. The rooms are average in size and are basic but clean, and cool and breezy because they’re so close to the sea and river. Some rooms have good views of the sea and river.

Baga Beach Nightlife

Always packed, Tito’s is the most happening bar and disco in Goa. Café Mambo, on the premises, is open daily, but the party crowd doesn’t come in until close to midnight. Cover charges are sometimes levied (you can use Master Card or Visa). The establishment is built into the hillside just off the Calangute-Baga road.
