Where is Anjuna beach?Anjuna is a small village in North Goa and Anjuna beach is approximately situated 18 km away from Panaji, the capital of Goa. It is one of the most popular beach in Goa. The period from November to February is the best time to visit Anjuna. The Mascarenhas Mansion is an architectural delight with rich and classic balconies. It has some of the finest stained glass floral etchings. The Chapora Fort gives a splendid view of the nearby Anjuna and Vagator beaches. The fort has been well preserved except for a few interesting ruins. Once, it was a domain of the Muslim rulers before the Portuguese wrested it.How to reach Anjuna beachThe nearest airport is at Dabolim, which is 29 km away from Panaji and 47 km from Anjuna. The nearest railway station is at Karmali, 11 km away from Panaji and 29 km from Anjuna. There are buses every hour to Anjuna from Mapusa. For tourists arriving from Mumbai, Mapusa is the jumping-off point for the northern beaches. Once in Goa, you can also hire bikes whose charges range from Rs 250 to Rs 400 per day. This way you can cover all the beaches as per your wishes and schedules. About Anjuna BeachAnjuna beach is a perfect haven for the hippies and you will come across some of them who have been staying on this beach for a couple of months. It is in the late 1950s to mid-1960s that this beach was "discovered" by the hippies. From then on began the trend of moonlit parties which is one occasion the hippies and now the tourists look forward to. Anjuna beach comes to life with the flea market and the full-moon beach parties that continue through out the night. The flea market at Anjuna beach offers a tourist just about anything he desires, right from swim suits to water-sports equipments to second hand bikes to cameras to various trinkets that can taken away as souvenirs to…just about anything. The Anjuna beach flea market is held on Wednesdays and if you are good at bargaining, then you can walk away with good stuff at throw away prices. You will also be able to find a mixture of good Gujarti, Kashmiri and Tibetan handicrafts. Apart from all this, you can also treat yourself to delicious Goan cuisine…right from mouth-watering prawns to heavenly pork vindaloo. Rave parties at Anjuna beachIf you want to let your hair down and have fun at any of the beach parties while in Goa, then Anjuna beach party is the place to be. The Anjuna beach in Goa comes to life with the rave parties held during the nights that continue till the wee hours of the morning. These rave parties are famous not only in Goa but all across the world. Tourists come to Goa just to enjoy these beach parties. These beach parties have attracted thousands of tourists from across the world. These full-moon beach parties are filled with music, dance, fun and frolic transports you to an altogether different world. These rave parties are usually accompanied by loud music but now the government has put a ban on very loud music, but still these wild parties at Anjuna beach continue to attract party lovers.After a night of partying at one of those beach parties at Anjuna, if you are thinking of taking a swim in the sea, then there is a warning: As far as swimming in the sea is concerned, it can be dangerous to take a call all by yourself at beach without consulting the life guard. If you are worried about where to stay, then there are plenty of guesthouses around the village and even a couple of hotels. There are also houses which you can take on rent if you are planning to stay for a couple of weeks or months.Granpa's Inn This multicuisine restaurant represents quite a change from the shack restaurants that line the beach area. The menu is limited but includes popular Continental and Indian dishes, such as spinach-and-potato casserole, prawns au gratin, and biriyani. Goan dishes are also available on request. The downside is that the restaurant does not ordinarily serve beef or pork. However, it's open for all three meals. Laguna Anjuna This upmarket place to stay is less than a kilometer from the beach but in a secluded rural area. In the elegant, minimalist cottages, each with one or two bedrooms, are red floors, soft lighting, entertainment areas with divans, and pretty, blue bathrooms. The resort has a pool and plenty of greenery, and its own restaurant if you don't want to trek to the small eateries near the beach. Hotel Bougainvillea (Granpa’s Inn) This hotel occupies a 200-year old restored Portuguese country house. Though Granpa himself is long deceased and the place has changed management, the name, “Granpa’s Inn” has stuck – as a mark of respect. A small pool, a lush garden, and simple, well-maintained rooms on the ground floor make this one of the nicest places to stay in Anjuna. Anjuna Beach NightlifeThe extremely popular place to down beer or local tea, watch the dramatic sunset over the Arabian Sea, and listen to loud music until the wee hours is the extremely popular Shore Bar on the beach. The steps of this place are usually packed with people, especially on Wednesday after the flea market. Walk north from the market for about a kilometer to get to the bar.
